The Philadelphia Museum of Art offers plenty of Family Programs that allow children and parents to learn, create, and most important, have fun together. All programs and events are free. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Visitor Services Desk.

Early Bird Read and Look (ages 3–5)
Tour meets in the West Lobby at the Family Cart.
Free tickets required after Museum admission

Preschoolers and their families enjoy picture books and art projects presented in the Museum galleries.

Drawing Together (all ages)

Do you like to draw? All family members are welcome to try their drawing skills in the Museum galleries. An artist is on hand to provide materials and encouragement. Drop in anytime between noon and 3:00 p.m. to sketch, doodle, or create a masterpiece.

Museum educators lead engaging gallery tours for parents and caregivers and their young ones. If the baby fusses, don’t fret— you’ll be in good company. Tours meet in Lenfest Hall/West Entrance unless otherwise noted.

Family Studio
Location: Student Lunch Room, ground floor

Let your creativity soar at the Family Studio! The Museum’s art studios become a fun family destination where people of all ages can create, learn, and have fun together. Projects explore art on view in the Museum—come back again and again to discover the whole collection.

Audio Guides for Children
Art comes to life with the American Art Kids Tour and the Arms and Armor Tour, interactive audio guides written especially for children ages 6–10. To learn more, inquire at the Visitor Services Desks located in the East and West entrances.

Self-Guided Family Tours
Explore the Museum at your own pace with a free, printed family guide that includes information about selected works of art and artists as well as looking questions and fun activities.

African American Stories in Art

Look, draw, and write your way through the American Art galleries and learn about works of art that tell a story about African Americans in the 1800s.

Arms and Armor

Imagine that you are a knight entering a tournament as you explore the Arms and Armor galleries. Families will look closely, draw, and write as they prepare for the joust.

Looking at Landscapes

Travel with your family to the galleries of European art and explore landscape paintings from many countries.
